2016 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition | May 27-June 12, 2016

The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs presents 2016 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition May 27 through June 12, 2016.  

This annual juried art exhibition showcases paintings, sculpture, drawings, printmaking, and photography of South Carolina artists. Artworks receiving prizes are presented alongside a limited selection of pieces identified by the juror as meriting display. This year’s juror is Greg Colleton, an artist and the Director of Operations at Redux Contemporary Art Center.  Colleton will offer an informal talk on the works displayed in this year’s exhibition on Saturday, June 4 at 2pm. This event is free and open to the public.

About the Juror

A native of Charleston, Greg Colleton developed a passion for the arts at a young age as a student at the local School of the Arts. In 2004, he attended Winston-State Salem University, where he received a BA in studio arts with a concentration in sculpture. As a student, he was the regional student rep/curator for the 4D Gallery, Dada Center of the Arts, and the University Gallery. Upon graduating, Greg became involved with the Greater Greensboro Commission for the Civil Rights Museum, where his bronze sculpture is permanently displayed. Following      college, he moved back to Charleston to pursue his career as an intern at Eye Level Art gallery. With a desire to highlight the gray area of art, Greg and local writer/friend, Elizabeth Bowers started curating with their pop up art concept, Gris Galerie. Colleton presently serves as Director of Operations for the Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, a nonprofit organization committed to fostering creativity and the cultivation of contemporary art through diverse exhibitions, subsidized studio space for visual artists, meaningful education programs, and a multidisciplinary approach to the dialogue between artists and their audiences.
