Charleston 350 Juried Art Exhibition

City Gallery is proud to work in partnership with the Charleston 350th Commemoration Commission, co-chaired by Councilmember Peter Shahid and Charleston’s Ambassador to the Arts Jonathan Green, to present a themed exhibition entitled, “Legacies Considered” at City Gallery. Open to all SC residents, the exhibition seeks submissions from visual artists that reflect the title’s theme in the context of social constructs of history and heritage, with an attendant curatorial interest in work that illuminates the sustaining patterns of human expression rooted in faith traditions and daily life. This year’s jurors are Ellen Dressler Moryl, Caroline Watson, and Rev. DeMett Jenkins. The exhibition will be on view at City Gallery with selected works may be invited to remain on view through in conjunction with a subsequent Charleston 350 exhibition.

Entry Specifications: submitted work must have been completed in the last two years. Craftwork or jewelry is ineligible. 2D fine artwork in all media is eligible. Artwork must be original and not copies of the work of others. Painted or enhanced photographs must be submitted in the photography category. All types of fine art photography are acceptable. City Gallery reserves the right to exclude work based on the way a piece is framed and mounted to ensure a cohesive look for the exhibition and the right to exhibit sculpture in alternate locations to accommodate work of varied size or scale. Accepted artwork may not be removed before the assigned time. An exhibition program listing participating artists, contact information, and artwork value will be available. Insurance is provided while work is on display.

 

Please include title, media, and dimensions of each work submitted. Work previously exhibited in the 2019 Piccolo Spoleto Festival Juried Art Exhibition, the 2018 or 2019 MOJA Arts Festival, at the City Gallery at any time, or exhibited at the 2020 ArtFields or that will be entered into the 2020 North Charleston Judged Art Exhibition will not be considered. All artwork must be framed or have a finished edge wrap and be gallery ready for hanging.

Submissions
Submitted artwork must comply fully with the following requirements for originality and date of completion:
(1)The artwork is an original creation completed within the last two years and is not, in whole or in part, a copy of any person’s work or photograph and
(2)The artwork was created solely by the artist and not in a workshop, class, or under supervision of an instructor.
